Day 1 – TRANSFER IN: AIRPORT – HOTEL
We pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel.
You can come by the workshop to set up your bike or let our expert mechanics do it. In the evening we will have a welcome dinner with your guide and the other people in your tour.
Day 2 – UYUNI SALT FLATS
Today we will pick you up very early, 4 am, for your 5:30am flight to Uyuni. The flight takes only an hour so you’ll barely have time to settle into your seat before we land and set off on the first real day of adventure!
Your guide and driver meet you at the airport and we begin our ride. Once on the Salar de Uyuni we ride to Isla de Pescado (Fish Island), which sits in the middle of the Salar and set camp on the Island. We can trek the small “island” and watch the sunset over the Salar.
Tonight we will camp out under the stars.
Day 3 – TUNUPA VOLCANO
Today we will ride out to visit the Tunupa, a dormant volcano on the northern side of the Salar de Uyuni at an elevation of 5,321 meters above sea level.
There will also be a chance for some riding in the area. We will spend the night in a cool Salt Hotel.
Day 4 – BACKROADS TO LAKE POOPO
After breakfast, we will head north towards Oruro and to the amazing Lake Poopo, a large saline lake located in a depression in the Altiplano, at an altitude of approximately 3,700 meters above sea level. Because the lake is long and wide (90km by 32km) it makes up the eastern half of the Oruro Department, a mining region in southwest Bolivia.
Today we will spend the night, once again, camping out.
Day 5 – SAJAMA
Today we will descend by bike into the village of Sajama. We will see people in this area living and herding their llamas.
A couple of hours before the village of Sajama we get our first views of Sajama mountain, an extinct stratovolcano and the highest peak in Bolivia, at 6,542 meters above sea level.
Here, we will stay in basic accommodation and take a short bike ride to the natural hot springs.
Day 6 – SAJAMA TO URMIRI
Today’s ride will take us in the direction of Urmiri, a location near La Paz City known for its natural hot springs, as well as for its unique landscapes.
Tonight we will camp out.
Day 7 – URMIRI (SEE URMIRI CACTUS TRAILS)
Day 8 – URIMIRI – ILLIMANI – PALCA
From Urmiri, we will head over to Illimani, the second highest peak in Bolivia, after Sajama, and La Paz´s most iconic peak. Illimani is located just south of La Paz at the eastern edge of the Altiplano. The snow line lies at about 4,570 meters above sea level, and glaciers are found on the northern face at 4,983m.
After some riding, we will head north, towards Palca to enjoy the unique scenery and explore the hidden beauty of La Paz’s backyard on a ride through some of the most beautiful valleys tucked away in the Andean mountains!
This is going to be a great ride, with little traffic and jaw dropping, gotta-take-a-picture views! You will ride from Palca Canyon through picturesque farming towns towards the Valley of the Souls, where the incredible stalactitestyle rocks give way to 100m high towering stone walls.
After winding our way off-the-beaten-track, we will load our bikes and head back to Allkamiri, an Eco Resort where we can enjoy a great dinner prepared with traditional Andean ingredients while enjoying views of the Illimani and Mururata Peaks (vegetarian options available).
Day 9 – PALCA TO LA PAZ – TRANSFER OUT
The ride to La Paz is short, only 45 minutes, so we can easily drive you to the airport 2-3 hours before your flight.
